Lake Cumberland Racetrack
Lake Cumberland Speedway’s 40th Anniversary Season saw 2022 Points Championship action take center stage Saturday, April 30th. Season regular Pro Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, GrassRoots Hobby Stocks and Front Wheel Drive Mini Stocks were joined on the racing schedule by the Super Stocks and Rear Wheel Drive Mini Stocks
Kids had their own racing divisions as well, with the Power Wheels and Bicycle races taking place at intermission.
27 Drive in Theater
A man by the name of Richard M. Hollingshead, jr., in his 30′s, was the sales manager for Whiz Auto Products Company, which his father owned. Richard was not challenged in his position so he strikes out on his own to create his own invention. He studied the American culture at the time. Richard finds that one of the last thing people would give up are the movies. In the 1930′s attending the movies was not a family activity.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 27 Drive-In. Since 1967, generations of guests have heard those words while waiting to see the movies.
Richard then went to the US Patent Office on August 6, 1932. He explained his invention. On May 16, 1933 he get a patent # of 1,909,537 the first Drive-In Theater patent ever. Later in May of 1950 the patent was declared invalid by the Delaware District Court.
Somernites Cruise
Somernites Cruise is held in historic Somerset, Kentucky, on the 4th Saturday of the month, from 12pm-6pm every April through October. Events are held on Thursday night and Friday of cruise weekends, too! ADMISSION IS ALWAYS FREE!
Somernites’ main attraction, the Saturday Show & Shine, is a non-judged event, open to all customs, classics, muscle cars and highly modified late models.
On the blocked off streets of downtown Somerset, you can show off your classic, meet other enthusiasts and admire the amazing cars on display.
