About Cumberland Miles Campground

Russell Springs, Kentucky.

Donnie & Dora Miles are the proud owners of Cumberland Miles Campground & RV Park.

Dora’s family has memories of life on Lake Cumberland dating back to the 1960’s. Chester (Bud) & Anita Ryan owned a floating boat house, that was kept in the cove where the ramp now sits at State Dock. When the Corps of Engineers outlawed boat houses, Dora’s family moved to Grider Hill and they purchased their 1st camping trailer. Her Grandparents, Chester (Bud) & Anita Ryan were the 1st paying customers at Grider Hill. Her Uncle Brett Ryan was a table busser as a young boy at the Grider Hill Restaurant. Instead of getting a paycheck for the shifts he worked, Brett would take Peanut Butter Pie home to his mom. Dora’s grandparents eventually bought a houseboat and docked it at Grider hill.

Dora was born in 1981 and grew up on Lake Cumberland from the time she was 8 years old spending summers and weekends at Grider Hill

She caught fish with her brother Nick off the dock every evening when her family came off the lake. Dora and her family also consumed enough Peanut Butter Pie to keep the marina in business. Eventually Dora’s grandparents, Mother Denise Ryan and Uncle Brett Ryan moved to Popplewell’s Alligator 1. Some of her fondest memories are of snipe hunting through the Alligator 1 Campground with her brother and friends. When the dam was being repaired, Wolf Creek dried up. Many families left Lake Cumberland, but Dora’s Uncle Brett stayed. It took years but Dora’s family all came back to Lake Cumberland when they did return they moved to Alligator 2 which is now Lake Cumberland Marina.

Growing up, Dora said that one day she would raise her kids to have the same passion as she has about spending summers on Lake Cumberland.

She and her Husband Donnie bought the farm that Cumberland Miles Campground & RV Park now sits on in 2019. At the time they weren’t sure what they would do with the property, but Dora’s Grandfather always told her to “buy dirt” when you have the opportunity… So that’s what they did. Dora & Donnie bought 10.66 acres of land on Highway 76 in Russell Springs, KY. After some time they noticed a lack of campsites for the boating community. They developed a business plan and presented it to Gaylon Neat at Community Trust Bank in Columbia, KY. Within weeks they were under construction and opened on April 1st, 2022.
